Ticks are nasty pet pests that can also affect humans if they get out of control. Commonly they affect cats and dogs but can also affect humans too and they are associated with Lyme Disease which is a seriously debilitating illness.
Ticks normally live in shrubs and long grass in foliage and live off other mammals’ blood. When they enter your home though, it will be your pets and your blood that these parasites will be feeding off so you should call Masterkill for quick and effective tick control services.
Ticks are everywhere but Maitland, Newcastle and certain parts of Lake Macquarie are hotspots so whether you have ticks inside or out, Masterkill has the know-how to control and remove these nasty little pests quickly and effectively.
Why You Need Tick Removal or Control
Parasites like ticks feed on blood, carry nasty diseases and a single female tick can lay thousands of eggs. Their bites are dangerous to both pets and humans and they can spread like wildfire if left untreated. They aren’t mobile so rely on animals and humans to spread so can easily be taken into your home as passengers and quickly start biting and breeding.
With over 20 years of experience, we know where they nest and how to eradicate them from your home, inside or out so give the expert pest controllers Masterkill a call today.
Signs of a Tick Infestation
Ticks are quite visible as small roundish (oval) dark brown crawling insects with adults having 8 legs. Their larvae only have 6 but they have no wings and so can be easily seen on animal fur and skin. Having a few ticks on you or your pets is usually easy to deal with simply by showering thoroughly, but if there are a lot and you don’t know where they come from then you may have an infestation in or around your home.
Signs of Ticks on Humans
If you have red raised bite marks on your skin that appear quickly (like mosquito bites) or a rash (similar to erythema migrans or EM then this is associated with Southern Tick Associated Rash Illness (STARI) then you almost certainly have been at least bitten by ticks. Other symptoms like chills, fever, headaches, body aches and nausea are also common but symptoms can vary greatly.
They’ll settle in places that are warm and moist like under the arms, groin, waist, head hair, backs of the knees, ears and belly buttons. They can be easily washed off but you must check your body thoroughly, but their source like their nest will need professional help from Masterkill.
Signs of Ticks on Animals
You can spot ticks the same way on pet fur but they might be harder to see due to long or dense hair. Signs that they have been bitten are similar to humans, raised red bite marks (which may not be easily visible), intermittent lameness, lethargy, fever and irritability like scratching.

Tick Removal and Control
Whilst we don’t remove ticks from animals or humans, we can advise on how best to get rid of them and treat your bites if you have them. We will however know where they are nesting (inside or out) and have effective sprays that will eliminate them quickly and effectively.
After a thorough inspection and talking to you, we will mainly use specially formulated eco-friendly sprays to treat areas inside and out and especially their nesting sites.
For a severe infestation, you may require more than one treatment but these nasty parasites should not be taken lightly. As with most pests prevention is better than a cure and we will advise on tick prevention to make sure they don’t return.
